Colored pencils are not created equally.
Sure, it's just some wood and wax {or oil} but the quality of the color and the durability of the pencil are very important.
So I looked for packs of colored pencils that were durable and meant to last - and they HAD to color nicely on the paper!
Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Soft Core, 72 Pack
These pencils get great reviews - the positive reviews are in the thousands - and are a joy to use on the page. The color goes on smoothly and blends well.
Castle Art Supplies Premium Colored Pencils Set
These colored pencils are named and numbered, so you could also replace these easily and reviewers say they're creamy and soft to work with. 82% of reviewers gave this pencil kit 5 stars.
Sargent Art Premium Coloring Pencils
Crayola Signature Blend & Shade Soft Core Colored Pencils
These pencils get great reviews for having a nice, vibrant color {except for the black, which one reviewer said was not a TRUE black} and for laying smoothly down on the paper. Oddly, these don't come pre-sharpened to a fine point so you'll have to do that yourself.
A good amount of pencils at a good price. Some say these aren't as good as previous brands I've mentioned that you can get for just a few dollars more and others say they're as good or better.
However, for the price, you might consider adding them to your supplies if you are a beginner or simply want to expand your toolkit.
